Moi Deux

Hey there, Carolina.

So, for the fourth time I'm trying to open and keep up with a journal.  I tend to journal hop a lot.  Sometimes I feel that I've outgrown a username and what it stands for.  Other times, I change it up to keep the dreaded LJ drama at bay.  It's one of the downsides to having a journal that friends know about.  Sometimes people can't just leave well enough alone.  I don't mind some internet person I don't know have a go at me.  It's another thing entirely when it leaks into my real life through people I actually know.  That's where it gets tricky.  I'm hoping not to make the same mistakes again.  Thus, if I know someone in real life and our relationship has never been tried and tested, they probably won't be lucky enough to gain access to this journal.  I've had my journal, my own private thoughts, used against me one too many times.  I'd like to keep the possibility of that happening again down to a slim margin.

In other news, I'm supposed to start my junior year of college this upcoming Wednesday.  Unfortunately, at the moment I have a sizable account deficit that I have to take care of.  We're going through an appeals process to receive more financial aid.  However, they have said that it will be 30 days before a decision is made.  Hopefully they will let me begin classes and if they deny our request, we will have time to figure out another plan.  School costs so much, and it seems to go up every year.  Oh, wait.  That's because Peace College's tuition does go up every year!  Imagine that.  After I graduate I'm going to be in debt up to my ears.

My 22nd birthday is also next week.  Sadly, I still don't feel like much of an adult.  Does a person ever start feeling like an adult?  It would be nice to have a car and be able to drive myself around.  However, I don't feel like putting the effort into getting one right now when my mom is telling me that I'll get her Volvo when I graduate.  It's all nice and paid off, so that will be one less thing I have to worry about.  At least no one will ever come to take my car away.

I've been to three concerts in the past two weeks, which has been fun.  First, I saw Counting Crows and Maroon 5.  It was my second time seeing Maroon 5, and they were much better this time around.  Counting Crows were also quite good.  Adam Duritz was walking with a cane because he has hurt himself from jumping around on tour.  In fact, he fell on stage once or twice.  He kept apologizing for his clumsiness, but I didn't expect any less when he has a bum leg and is jumping off the drum kit.

Second, I got to see Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick.  Mom didn't know much about Cheap Trick.  It's amusing to school your parents about music that they should know better than you.  Heart was AMAZING.  They haven't changed at all.  In fact, I think they get better with age.  Ann and Nancy Wilson are wonderful musicians.  They didn't play 'Little Queen', which kind of disappointed me, but I guess they can't play every song in their catalogue.  Journey was also pretty ace!  I have wanted to see Journey for years, and I finally got to see them.  I know that no one can come close to Steve Perry, but their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda, is pretty damn close.  They played every classic Journey song that you can imagine, plus some new ones from the new album.  Mom squealed like a little girl when they played 'Separate Ways'.  It was really amusing.  Then again, I reacted the same way when they played 'Ask The Lonely'.  Sue us.  We're Journey fans!

Lastly, I got to see Jack Johnson and Rogue Wave.  Rogue Wave opened, and I'm sad to say I think I enjoyed them more.  Mom is a pretty big Jack Johnson fan, so I was along for the ride.  He did a fantastic job.  Although, he messed up on two of his songs that night.  He acknowledged it by saying, "Mess up your own song one time and it's funny.  Mess it up twice and you're just pathetic.".  It was pretty funny to see a musician take the piss out of himself.  It was endearing, I think.  He joked with the crowd between songs.  During one of his songs, someone in the front was making a face at him and he got flustered and forgot the words to his song.  Then after another he made a joke about someone in the audience who had been yawning.  He said, "Don't worry, man.  I understand.  I have mothers tell me that they put their kids to bed to my music all the time.".  His concert was also a "green" concert.  He had a lot of information about the environment and going green.  It was nice to see someone interested in how their actions effected the environment.  The Maroon 5/Counting Crows concert was also green, but they didn't have any information on how everyone can do their part.  They just mentioned that they were making sure that their tour had low carbon emissions.  So, kudos to them, as well.

Anyway, hopefully I can keep up with this thing.  I'd like to say for certain that I can, but I don't want to put that unnecessary pressure on myself.  So, I guess I'll just say that we'll see.  It will be a surprise for all of us.
